Satirizing Xavi? Laporta: Flick Will Not Look for Excuses, Relations with Real Madrid Are Currently Very Poor

Barcelona club president Joan Laporta held a press conference on Tuesday to analyze the current situation of the club and look forward to the new season. Laporta mentioned that due to the ‘Negreira case’, Barcelona’s relationship with Real Madrid has further deteriorated. He also seemingly made a veiled criticism of Xavi while praising Flick.

Laporta highly praised the work performance of the new head coach Flick, and indirectly criticized the previous coach Xavi: “We hope he will be dedicated and work hard. We need him to create a style of football that everyone loves, and in this regard, we are completely aligned. He will not look for excuses but will use the available resources to solve problems, and at the same time, make reasonable demands. However, we have not put pressure on him to win titles.”

When talking about his relationship with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, Laporta was straightforward: “The relationship with Real Madrid is currently very tense because they have filed a lawsuit over the ‘Negreira case’, which is unacceptable behavior. Furthermore, they even took journalists to court.”

Laporta also discussed the progress of the European Super League project and stated that the plan is still being actively promoted: “We are working hard to make this project a reality. The concept of the Super League has already prompted UEFA to make changes. According to this plan, an additional five hundred million euros will be distributed to clubs. Although this means an increase in the number of matches, we believe there is room for improvement in everything. The economic benefits brought by the Super League are considerable, and we welcome any initiative that helps the development of football.”
