Prior to this, several British media outlets reported that Chelsea would continue their search for a striker in the winter transfer window, with Leverkusen forward Bonifas being the Blues’ top choice. However, Bonifas candidly expressed in an interview that he is not interested in playing in the Premier League.
“Even before I got my EU passport, I’ve never been too interested in the Premier League. I’m not particularly fond of the Premier League; I prefer La Liga and the Bundesliga.”
“I’m not saying I don’t want to join a great team, but if I have to choose the country where I truly want to live and play football, I would pick Germany and Spain.”
Bonifas joined Leverkusen from Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer of 2023, and so far, he has made a total of 40 appearances for the club, scoring 25 goals.
