Marca: Bellingham to Return to Central Striker Role in Madrid Derby

On September 29, in the eighth round of La Liga, Real Madrid will face off against Atlético Madrid in an away derby match. According to Marca, Bellingham’s position may be moved forward in this game, returning him to the familiar central striker role.

Last season, as the focal point of Real Madrid’s attack, Bellingham played 42 games for the team, contributing 23 goals and 13 assists, standing out with his performances and becoming a key player in helping Real Madrid win both the La Liga and Champions League titles.

With Mbappé’s arrival this summer, Bellingham’s position was moved back, partly filling the space left by Kroos’ departure and also making room for Mbappé. This has placed Bellingham further from the opponent’s goal and tasked him more with organizing the team and defensive duties. Additionally, the holiday after the European Cup and early-season injuries have also affected his form. So far this season, Bellingham has played five games for Real Madrid, providing only two assists.

With Mbappé sidelined due to injury, it finally allows Bellingham to return to the familiar central striker position, which could help him rediscover his scoring touch. However, Bellingham has not had smooth encounters against Atlético; in four matches across La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup last season, Bellingham failed to score against Atlético Madrid.
