According to British media outlet The Mirror, former Manchester United striker Bebé said in an interview that leaving Manchester United was the most wonderful moment of his life. After joining Manchester United, he found it hard to adapt and almost begged his agent every day to move him elsewhere.
In 2010, then-Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson signed the little-known Bebé for £7.2 million. Ferguson later admitted that he had never seen Bebé play and had relied entirely on the recommendation of his assistant, Carlos Queiroz.
Bebé also said that joining Manchester United was a terrible choice, “During my time at Manchester United, I almost called my agent every day, hoping he could find a way to move me out. What’s the point of being at a big club if you can’t play? You feel unhappy, and there’s no point in continuing.”
However, Bebé said that the moment he learned he could leave was the most wonderful moment of his life, “I remember traveling with the Manchester United youth team for a match when my agent called to tell me I had been sold to Benfica. That moment was perhaps the most beautiful moment of my life.”
But Bebé also said that he was very happy when he learned he would join Manchester United, “If you are playing in the third or fourth tier of Portuguese football and suddenly the best club in the world invites you to join, anyone would think ‘Is this real?’
Moreover, Bebé thanked Manchester United for giving him a chance, “Manchester United changed everything for me, changing the lives of my family and me. It was where everything began. I could buy things I couldn’t afford before and help my family and friends do things they couldn’t do. Of course, if I had the mentality I have now, I might still be there. But I don’t regret it. Now, I would tell young players to train hard, stay focused, and be even more focused.”
