Not long after resigning from his position as the head coach of the Australian national team, Arnold discussed his departure on the program The Back Page Live.
“Everyone thought this decision was difficult, but it was actually very easy,” Arnold said, reflecting on his resignation, “I always put the country first and myself last. Since the failure at the Asian Cup, I had a different feeling, my gut told me it was time to leave. I feel great, no regrets whatsoever.”
After the Australian Football Association replaced Arnold, they quickly announced Popovic as the new appointee. Regarding this, Arnold commented, “I hope Popovic performs well and leads the team to qualify for the World Cup. As for my future, I want to start a new journey.”
