According to The Sun, a large stadium in Malaysia with a capacity of over 80,000 spectators was recently demolished due to structural safety issues.
The Shah Alam Stadium, officially opened in 1994, could accommodate up to 80,372 spectators and was one of the most prestigious stadiums in the country. In terms of scale, it was even larger than Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge. After its recent demolition by explosives, it has been reduced to ruins.
In 2020, safety experts determined that the structure posed serious safety hazards, leading to the decision to demolish it this year. This stadium had long served as the home ground for Selangor, a domestic club in Malaysia. It witnessed an Asian pre-season match between Arsenal and Chelsea in 2011, a friendly match between Dundee United and Selangor XI, and hosted several matches of the Malaysian national team.
Not only football, but famous singers like Bon Jovi, Deep Purple, and Maroon 5 also held large concerts here. After the demolition, a more modern stadium is planned to be built on this site, expected to be completed by 2029, but with a capacity of approximately half, around 35,000 to 45,000 people.
