According to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona has set their sights on Manchester City’s striker Erling Haaland as their top transfer target for the summer of 2025.
With the renovation of Camp Nou still ongoing, Barcelona has been using the Barcelona Olympic Stadium as a temporary home ground. As the reopening of Camp Nou is scheduled for late January or early February next year, the Catalan giants are looking for a blockbuster signing to celebrate the grand reopening. All signs point to this star player being Manchester City’s forward, Erling Haaland.
Despite Robert Lewandowski maintaining good form this season, the 36-year-old Pole is clearly not part of Barcelona’s long-term plans. Barcelona hopes that Haaland will take over Lewandowski’s No. 9 shirt and rival Real Madrid’s No. 9, Kylian Mbappe. Although Haaland’s contract with Manchester City runs until the summer of 2027, prying him away at this moment would be no easy task. However, Barcelona may take advantage of the imminent expiration of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s contract and lure Haaland with the prospect of La Liga and Champions League glory.
Mundo Deportivo also stated that such a deal would undoubtedly shake up the football world, but it would require tremendous effort to achieve. As the only player currently valued at 200 million euros by Transfermarkt, Haaland’s transfer fee would be astronomical, and Manchester City will surely do everything in their power to keep their star striker.
