The last matchday of the first round of the UEFA Champions League saw two Ligue 1 teams, Monaco and Brest, both securing a 2-1 victory on their home turf.
Monaco, benefiting from the early red card to their opponent’s defensive midfielder Garcia, managed to upset Barcelona with goals from Akliouche and Iliene Khena, ending the match 2-1. Meanwhile, Brest also claimed a 2-1 victory over Grazer AK thanks to goals from Magnetti and Sima. Adding to this success, Paris Saint-Germain secured a narrow 1-0 win against Girona yesterday, courtesy of an own goal. Consequently, all three Ligue 1 teams triumphed in the first round of the Champions League, including Brest, who had only managed one win and three losses in their first four matches of the new Ligue 1 season.
Notably, Brest became the first French team in the 21st century to win their debut match in the Champions League. Previously, Lille lost in 2001, Montpellier in 2012, and Rennes drew in 2020.
