Nagelsmann Criticizes Two Bayern Munich Executives: Lacked a Cool Head to Handle My Situation

Former Bayern Munich head coach and current Germany national team coach Nagelsmann criticized two Bayern executives, Salihamidzic and Kahn, in an interview with German magazine Stern.

Nagelsmann said: “I joined Bayern at a time when the club, along with Salihamidzic and Kahn, was undergoing a transition in management. I also joined as a young coach. I believe that such a transition might have been too radical. After all, Salihamidzic and Kahn first had to break free from the influence of Rummenigge and Hoeness. Therefore, they lacked composure and perhaps did not have enough authority to care about and handle my situation.”

In the summer of 2021, Bayern poached Nagelsmann from their rivals Leipzig, paying a ‘transfer fee’ of 20 million euros for a coach. Nagelsmann led Bayern in 84 matches, achieving 60 wins, 14 draws, and 10 losses, scoring 255 goals and conceding 84, and leading the team to win the Bundesliga title in 2022.

However, Nagelsmann was unexpectedly dismissed in March 2023. On this, Nagelsmann pointed out: “To put it this way, I made some mistakes at the time, but I believe the club did too.”

Fortunately, Nagelsmann is now respected within the German national team. He stated: “Working with the national team gives you a sense of responsibility towards the entire team that is entirely different from what you experience with a club. You and your coaching staff are the only ones making the nomination decisions. You love your players and will do everything for them.”
