LaLiga President Tebas: Premier League Has Not Won a Ballon d'Or in Years; LaLiga Players Are More Valuable Than Premier League Players

Recently, LaLiga President Tebas attended the Ibero-American Impact Summit hosted by the United Nations. At the conference, Tebas stated that no Premier League player has won the Ballon d’Or since 2008, which means that LaLiga players are more valuable than Premier League players.

Tebas said, “I think Vinicius is very likely to win the Ballon d’Or, as he has had a super season in LaLiga. This shows that the Spanish league still has outstanding players, and there are Spaniards in many of the top teams. Although there are fewer than in the Premier League, this does not prevent them from being among the favorites. I always remember that Premier League fans hope that Premier League players can win the Ballon d’Or again because they have not won this award since 2008. We have received a lot of criticism, even though we have lost many stars from LaLiga, but every year, there are always LaLiga players among the Ballon d’Or nominees.”

“What’s important is always having excellent players, but this is not essential. The most important thing is having good clubs, a good club brand, a good competitive brand. This is an internationally renowned competition, not just about players, because players are transient; they can move from one place to another.”

Ronaldo went to Juventus, but Serie A did not improve as a result. Paris once had Messi, Mbappe, Neymar… but we also saw the suffering Ligue 1 endured in various aspects, so this shows that players are not the key to the development of the competition.”
