Philippe Albert, former Newcastle player and Belgian international, spoke to La Dernière Heure/L’Echo about the recent topic of congested schedules.
Recently, many players have spoken out about how the congested schedule has placed enormous physical and mental strain on them. Manchester City players Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne have both expressed significant dissatisfaction with the situation. De Bruyne even stated bluntly, “UEFA and FIFA only care about money.” Rodri’s torn anterior cruciate ligament, which ended his season, seems to further validate this claim.
When asked about this topic, Albert had a different perspective, saying, “I don’t agree with this view. When you are a professional player, you should not be complaining constantly. You have been given the opportunity to turn your hobby into a career, and money plays a big part in that. Some professions we never talk about struggle to make ends meet. The more matches you play, the fewer training sessions there are, I believe players have no right to complain.”
