According to The Telegraph, Manchester City has requested the English Premier League (EPL) to delay their first match of the upcoming season in order to allow the team more time to prepare.
Manchester City has already qualified for the Club World Cup, and if they progress smoothly, they will play in the final on July 13th. The schedule for the next EPL season is not yet finalized, but Manchester City is set to play in the Community Shield on August 10th, marking the start of the new season. If the EPL rejects Manchester City’s request, after accounting for the three weeks of mandatory rest that the club must provide to its players, the team will only have one week to prepare for the new season.
The Telegraph reports that Manchester City has not yet received a response from the EPL, but it is widely expected within the industry that the request will be denied.
