Chelsea is continuing its recruitment efforts behind the scenes and has just brought in a new executive from Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owner of Liverpool.
Despite the power struggle between Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly within Chelsea’s management, the club is still taking action. Since being taken over by private equity firm Clearlake Capital in May 2022, Chelsea has undergone changes in almost every department of the club, with some departments seeing multiple adjustments. The most noticeable changes have been in the sporting department, where they have changed coaches twice, introduced two new co-sporting directors, and spent over £1 billion on new players. However, changes in the commercial department of the club have been equally frequent if not more so.
Chelsea has poached a new executive from Fenway Group, the parent company of Liverpool. According to City AM, Chelsea’s private equity owners, Clearlake Capital, will appoint Fenway Group executive David Buston as Managing Director.
Buston has worked at Fenway for over a decade, overseeing the MLB team Boston Red Sox and the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins. His last role was co-head of Fenway Sports Management, an important subsidiary of the group focused on marketing.
