Netherlands FA Official: Vitesse Penalized with Points Deduction for Late Financial Report Submission, Points Deduction Pending

The Netherlands Football Association (FA) has issued an official statement confirming that Vitesse will be deducted 12 points; however, the team will currently only lose 6 points, with the remaining 6 points to be determined based on circumstances.

After being deducted 6 points, Vitesse is left with only 4 points and will drop from 10th place to 18th. The club has stated that they will not appeal the decision. The deduction will affect Vitesse’s final league position, but the current stage ranking will remain unchanged (the Eerste Divisie [second tier of Dutch football] is divided into four phases, with rounds 1-9 comprising the first phase, where the top team in each phase qualifies for the promotion play-offs).

This points deduction is still a result of previous misconduct by the club, which was penalized for late submission of financial statements for the 2022/23 fiscal year. Last season, Vitesse was relegated after being deducted 18 points and was later accused of submitting false documents when providing information, leading to a period where it faced the threat of bankruptcy.
