Coke: We Still Have the Fantasy That One Day the Champions League Will Come to Us

In the early morning of September 20, in the first round of the Champions League, Atlético Madrid won a comeback victory against RB Leipzig with a score of 2-1 at home.

According to the Spanish media “Mundo Deportivo,” Atlético Madrid captain Coke gave an interview to reporters after the game.

Coke said: “Ultimately, we secured three points under this new format. We knew that the only thing that matters is winning, especially at home. We understood the importance of home games. They are the upcoming key points. (Leipzig) didn’t have many chances either, only the one (goal) at the beginning of the first half. The team had the courage to continue attacking, and we struggled a bit in defense, adjustment, and counterattacks. We know how to defend well. In football, for goals to happen, there must be mistakes. But apart from that, the truth is that we did well defensively, and goals can happen; what’s important is the team’s response.”

When talking about the Champions League title, Coke, who has experienced defeat in two Champions League finals, expressed: “The Champions League played in this new format is very special. We continue to maintain the complete fantasy of the Champions League, believing that one day the Champions League will come to us.”
