On Sunday, Tottenham won 3-0 against Manchester United in the Premier League, but due to fan behavior, they may face penalties.
According to The Guardian, some Tottenham fans insulted Mount with chants at Old Trafford.
In response, Tottenham released a statement after the match, stating that they will take the “strongest measures” against such offensive behavior. It is understood that these insults were not only directed at Mount but also involved Arsenal’s head coach, Arteta.
The club said in its statement: “The club has noted the disgusting comments made by a section of traveling supporters today at Old Trafford. Such behavior is absolutely unacceptable, very offensive, and certainly not the right way to support the team. The club will work closely with the police and staff to identify anyone who instigated or participated in such abuse — we will take the strongest actions according to the club’s disciplinary and banning policies. Any supporter present today who witnessed or heard any inappropriate behavior can report it to us anonymously. We will continue to work with our fan groups to strive for a warm, friendly, and inclusive match environment for all fans. We are proud of our loyal supporters, both home and away. However, each of us has a responsibility to be an ambassador for the image of Spurs, and there is no place for any form of discrimination within our club.”
Tottenham’s fan group “Pride of Lily” also shared the club’s statement on social media platforms and added: “We love the brilliant performance on the pitch at Old Trafford; however, we do not like what happens off the pitch. We are all Spurs fans. When you sing those songs, you are actually telling us that there is no place for us in your group; but in fact, we are part of this big family just like you.”
