Leipzig Coach: Details Decide Success or Failure in the Champions League; Loss to Atletico Due to Lack of Confidence

In the first round of the Champions League, Sesko scored first, Griezmann contributed a goal and an assist, and Jimenez scored the winning goal, ultimately leading to RB Leipzig’s 1-2 away defeat against Atletico. After the match, Leipzig’s coach Marco Rose spoke to the media.

How do you feel about this game?

“We didn’t handle it well. The players gave their all on the field, and there’s always a reason behind every result. We had a good start, scoring early, but then we made too many mistakes. Atletico have very talented players who regained control of the game. Although we controlled the second half, Atletico still created chances with the support of their home fans. It’s painful to be defeated at the last minute, but we learned a lot from this.”

What was lacking for your team to win?

“This is the Champions League, where details decide success or failure. We missed some opportunities, and then conceded two goals, especially the last one late in the game. Our defense wasn’t up to par, and I think we should have utilized the spaces better in attack.”

It seemed that Leipzig was struggling after taking the 1-0 lead. Why? How was Sesko’s performance?

“I hope today’s experience will help us. What’s important is that after taking the 1-0 lead, we made two mistakes. With five players under 21, sometimes they lack confidence in their abilities, especially against experienced opponents and such passionate fans. We lacked confidence. I never thought we would lose. In the second half, we regained control of the game.”

About Griezmann

“Watching Griezmann play is both a pleasure and a challenge.”
