Ligue de Football Professionnel Approves Acquisition! Mbappe Officially Becomes Owner of Caen Club

According to reports from multiple French media outlets including Football Market, on Wednesday morning local time, Mbappe officially became the owner of Ligue 2’s Caen club.

Mbappe has formally completed the acquisition of the Ligue 2 club, Caen. Although the news of Mbappe’s acquisition of Caen was announced in advance, it still required financial review by the National Management Committee of French Professional Football League (DNCG). Now, this body has approved all documents submitted by Mbappe’s company.

The company owned by Mbappe, Interconnected Ventures, has become the controlling shareholder of Caen club, holding 80% of the club’s shares, while the remaining 20% is held by the original club owner, Pierre-Antoine Capton. This is Mbappe’s first investment in a football club; previously, other players have taken the lead, such as his teammate during the 2018 World Cup victory, Kante, who owns the Belgian Royal Verdu club.

The Caen team, nicknamed the “Vikings,” had an unfavorable start to the season, accumulating only one point in the first four rounds. However, the team recently won two consecutive games, including Tuesday’s victory over Amiens, which greatly boosted the morale of the team. The Caen club celebrated the news of Mbappe becoming the controlling shareholder in July. In fact, the Real Madrid star even posted on Instagram last weekend to celebrate Caen’s victory.

The DNCG issued a statement on Wednesday stating that no irregularities were found in the ownership change of Caen club and fully approved all related purchase and sale contracts. Therefore, starting from Wednesday, Mbappe officially became the legal owner of the club, and the club will strive to be promoted to the Ligue 1 in the coming years.
