On September 26, the first round of the men’s singles at the China Open saw world number one Sinner face off against Chilean player Jarry.
In the first set, Jarry performed excellently on his serve, winning five aces and successfully suppressing his opponent to take the first set 6-4, leading Sinner 1-0 in sets.
The second set saw Sinner regain his form early on, breaking serve in the second game to quickly gain a 3-0 lead. In the following four games, both players managed to hold their serves, bringing the score to 5-2. Sinner held off Jarry’s attacks in the ninth game to win it, ultimately taking the second set 6-3, leveling the match at 1-1 in sets.
In the third set, Sinner continued his hot streak by breaking serve to lead 2-0. Jarry’s physical condition declined, causing consecutive unforced errors, which allowed Sinner to build a 4-1 advantage. Sinner did not give his opponent a chance to fight back, closing out the third set 6-1.
Ultimately, Sinner defeated Jarry 2-1 to advance to the second round.
