Fonseca: It's Important to Maintain Momentum After Winning the Derby; Unlucky to Face Strong Teams in Champions League

On September 28, in the 6th round of Serie A, AC Milan secured a 3-0 victory over Lecce at home. During the post-match press conference, Milan coach Fonseca provided his comments, stating that the team maintained its good form after winning the Milan derby, and also discussed the upcoming challenging Champions League opponent, Bayer Leverkusen.

In the first round of the Champions League, Milan suffered a 1-3 loss at home against Liverpool, but subsequently returned to the league and turned things around with consecutive victories over Inter Milan and Lecce. Fonseca commented, “Perhaps people did not expect our comeback, but this is part of the fun of football. The situation on the field can change instantly, whether positively or negatively. Maintaining this momentum after winning the derby is undoubtedly very important.”

Fonseca talked about the progress of the entire AC Milan squad: “I believe that in the past few matches, the team has been continuously improving. Fofana is in great form, full of confidence on the pitch, always making the right choices, and becoming stronger. Morata has fully demonstrated his characteristics, I love the energy he brings, which greatly inspires his teammates.”

AC Milan will face Bayer Leverkusen away in the upcoming Champions League match. Fonseca said, “We’ve been quite unlucky, facing two of the best teams in Europe, Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen, in the first two rounds of the Champions League. The whole team knows that the game may be difficult, we will be fully focused on the upcoming Champions League match and make thorough preparations.”
