James Garner, who once played for Manchester United, left the team to join Everton in the summer of 2022. In a recent interview, he talked about the reasons for his departure from Manchester United, stating that it was closely related to Ten Hag.
Garner said, “Ten Hag is a very approachable person, but he is also very strict. He does not allow anyone to violate the rules, and if someone makes a mistake, he will point it out straightforwardly and punish those who violate the rules. Our conversation was very relaxed; I directly asked him if I could become a member of the first team and if he thought I could play a role. However, the final result was not what I had hoped for, so I ultimately chose to leave.”
“I did have a good talk with him because I had just had an excellent season at Nottingham Forest, which might have been my best one yet, so I wanted to progress rather than sit on the bench week after week. When Ten Hag started signing three or four midfielders, I knew I didn’t have a place, so I chose to leave and find first-team opportunities at another club.”
Ultimately, Garner transferred to Everton for £15 million last summer and quickly became a key player for the team.
