According to Bild, Real Madrid has taken the first step in planning for the “post-Ancelotti era,” with Alonso set to return to the club as head coach once the Italian manager departs.
Ancelotti’s current contract with Real Madrid is set to expire in 2026, and indications are that he will not be renewing his contract with the club.
It is understood that Real Madrid is also aware of Ancelotti’s plans and has therefore started preparations early, finalizing their decision to make Alonso the next official head coach.
This summer, Alonso turned down an offer from another former club, Liverpool, to replace Klopp. His contract with Bayer Leverkusen also expires in 2026.
There are reports suggesting that if Ancelotti chooses to retire early next summer, Alonso would be willing to terminate his contract with Leverkusen prematurely to move to the Bernabeu.
