Undeterred by Punishment? Schalke Believes the Referee Decision Was Unfair and Confronts DFB on Social Media

Recently, Schalke 04’s official social media posted a thought-provoking message, “What now, German Football Association (DFB)?” directly @ing the official DFB social media. The accompanying image shows Käser and Sarenren Barnes standing on either side of Schalke.

Previously, the DFB officially announced that in the match between Stuttgart and Wolfsburg, the second yellow card to Käser which resulted in a red was incorrect as he was the fouled party. Playing with one less player, Stuttgart managed to draw 2-2 away against Wolfsburg. Subsequently, Stuttgart appealed the red card, which was accepted by the DFB, and Käser’s suspension will be lifted.

While this decision was fair, it immediately caused dissatisfaction from Schalke 04, as not long ago their midfielder Sarenren Barnes also suffered a similar misjudgment during a match against Nuremberg. When Sarenren Barnes was shown a red card after two yellows, Schalke was still leading 1-0, but subsequently lost 1-3 away after playing with one less player.

The DFB recently decided not to overturn Sarenren Barnes’ red card, stating “there is no evidence of a clear mistake in the decision.” This infuriated Schalke fans who launched protests, while the team’s official social media even posted sarcastically about the DFB’s “double standards.”
