Every Sports: Barcelona Interested in Lille Forward Jonathan David

Catalan media “Mundo Deportivo” reports: Barcelona are interested in Lille’s soon-to-be out-of-contract forward Jonathan David, and they see him as a potential successor to Robert Lewandowski.

The report points out: A lot could happen at Barcelona between now and next summer. The club hopes to regain a “one-to-one” financial status, enabling them to operate in the market, which might occur in January, especially with the inauguration of the new Camp Nou, improving Barcelona’s financial situation. Therefore, the team also needs to start planning transfers in several positions, one of which is crucial – possibly the most crucial – being the central striker position.

Robert Lewandowski’s contract is coming to an end, although he has the option to extend it by another year next June. This goalscoring machine is currently performing excellently, but regardless, reinforcing his position should be a strategy for Barcelona, given Lewandowski’s advancing age.

Currently, Barcelona is not betting on Vitinho Roque; instead, they are more inclined to seek a prolific scorer in the market. At present, half of Europe – including Barcelona – is very fond of Sporting CP’s central striker Joaquim Cruxen, who is expected to set records next summer due to his high starting price.

Another player who has caught the attention of Barcelona’s technical office since last year is Lille’s forward Jonathan David, whose contract expires on June 30th. Despite Lille’s continuous efforts to convince him to renew, he seems uninterested. The Canadian striker has become one of Ligue 1’s top scorers and one of the most prolific forwards in Europe’s top five leagues. He joined Lille for slightly over €25 million in 2020 and has been performing exceptionally well ever since.

Mundo Deportivo notes that many teams are interested in Jonathan David, such as Juventus and Inter Milan from Serie A, and several Premier League teams. Barcelona already has information about the possible actions and has made plans; no further steps are needed at this stage, but they view him as an “extremely attractive” option. Starting in January, Barcelona will take concrete actions.
