On October 3rd, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard discussed the Arsenal defensive duo of Saliba and Gabriel, stating that they still fall short of the legendary Terry and Carvalho pairing from his days at Chelsea.
In the past two seasons, the combination of Saliba and Gabriel has demonstrated tremendous strength, becoming an insurmountable obstacle for many opponents and a cornerstone of Arsenal’s defense. It is due to this golden defensive partnership that Arsenal has maintained a strong title-contending ability in the last two seasons.
Despite the impressive performances of Saliba and Gabriel, Lampard still does not consider them comparable to Terry and Carvalho: “Not yet. We can talk about comparisons when they also win two to three Premier League titles and a Champions League. However, both Saliba and Gabriel are young and continue to improve.”
This season in the Premier League, Arsenal sits third with 14 points from four wins and two draws, one point behind the leaders Liverpool, as the team continues its push for the Premier League title.
