Media Figure: The FA's Reason for Not Terminating Ivan's Contract is Simply Due to the Lack of Funds for Compensation

Former well-known journalist from Sports Weekly and football expert Ran Xiongfei wrote an article about Ivan Janković, the head coach of the national football team.

He stated that after two rounds of the World Cup qualification matches in the Asian zone, both Oman and Australia, who performed poorly, dismissed their head coaches. However, Ivan, whose record is the worst, remains safe for now. The Football Association (FA) has discussed terminating his contract, but due to a “lopsided treaty” signed between the Chinese FA and Ivan, they cannot afford the compensation required for termination, yet they face significant public pressure for not doing so. The reason the FA does not terminate Ivan’s contract is simply because they cannot afford to pay the compensation.

It is clear that when Ivan took over the Chinese men’s national team, he had already prepared for this situation during negotiations. His experience as a professional coach in West Asia made him understand that contracts should not be signed casually. For a professional coach, it is common to be dismissed when the team’s performance is poor, but it is unacceptable not to receive compensation. Ivan has given another lesson to the unprofessional Chinese FA, and also to us unprofessional media people: praising him as ‘the only choice’ at the beginning, we now find it impossible to ‘turn our backs’ on him.
