Enrique on Omitting Dembele: He Has Attitude Issues in the Team, I’m One Hundred Percent Sure of My Decision

Previously, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) officially released the squad list for the upcoming Champions League away match against Arsenal. Surprisingly, starting winger Dembele was left out of the squad. Subsequently, PSG head coach Enrique explained the reason during a press conference.

When asked about the issue with Dembele, Enrique said, “If someone is disrespectful or unwilling to fulfill their obligations to the team, then they are not ready. I believe this week is an important one; we have a crucial match ahead, and I want my players to be in their best condition. Therefore, I chose to leave him out. I only hope that everything prioritizes the team’s interests.”

When pressed further on the matter, Enrique responded with a serious tone, “Do you think building a team is as easy as pressing a button? Of course not. We face many challenging situations and difficult decisions. I am one hundred percent sure of my decision and take full responsibility for it. However, cautiously speaking, this situation is not irreversible.”

“I am making the best decisions possible for the team. By signing with this club, my goal is to build a team with its own character on the pitch. Was I hired to win titles? To win the Champions League? Not exactly. I took this job to try to build the best team on the field, and if I can’t do that, I’ll leave. Of course, I have the support of the board and the chairman. I am here to build a team, and Dembele is also part of it.”

When asked about the specific reasons for Dembele’s omission, Enrique reiterated, “I have nothing more to add. I want to be honest with everyone, but I don’t want to create a soap opera. There has been no conflict between us; the reports are completely false. This is about whether a player can fulfill his commitment to the team, not about the relationship between the player and the coach.”
