Just Joined and Already Leaving? Corinthians May Be Unable to Afford Depay After Losing Main Sponsor

Dutch football star Memphis Depay’s move to Corinthians has bolstered the Brazilian team’s strength. However, according to reports by AS, Depay’s career in Brazil is now facing uncertainty due to difficulties encountered by the club’s main sponsor.

The primary sponsor of Corinthians had planned to provide substantial sponsorship fees over the next three years but may now be backing out due to operational difficulties. For Corinthians, losing this crucial source of funding will have a significant impact on their financial situation, especially considering Depay’s high salary.

According to the agreement signed by both parties, the company was supposed to cover most of Depay’s wage expenses. Should the sponsor withdraw its support, Corinthians would face immense financial pressure, making it extremely difficult to maintain their partnership with Depay.

Renowned sports journalist Paulo Coelho mentioned in his column: “Corinthians are actively seeking a new sponsor to replace the original one, particularly to secure Depay’s future. However, finding a suitable new partner within a short period of time is not going to be easy.”

Depay’s arrival undoubtedly brought new hope to Corinthians; since joining the team, his performances have helped win several key matches. However, in the world of football, economic factors always play a pivotal role.

The 30-year-old Depay signed with Corinthians in September this year for a two-year contract term. His decision to come to Brazil was mainly because he couldn’t find a suitable club in Europe at the time. If he eventually has to leave due to financial reasons, it would undoubtedly be a significant loss for Corinthians.
