Bonucci on Ronaldo's Juventus Career: He Wanted to Dominate Games as a Superstar, but Sarri Asked Him to Think More About the Team

On October 8, Bonucci spoke about Cristiano Ronaldo’s time at Juventus, stating that there was an incompatibility between Ronaldo and then-manager Sarri.

Bonucci talked about Ronaldo’s time at Juventus: “Ronaldo came with the goal of taking an already strong Juventus to the next level and making a full push for the Champions League title, but unfortunately, we didn’t achieve it. After Ronaldo arrived, the direction of the club began to get strange; Allegri finished his coaching cycle, and then due to the coronavirus, matches were postponed, and Sarri became the new manager of Juventus.”

Bonucci talked about the incompatibility between Ronaldo and Sarri: “Ronaldo is always full of energy; he wanted the freedom to play his own style of football, to dominate games as a superstar. But Sarri did not agree with this approach; he required Ronaldo to serve the team on the pitch.”

Bonucci also had some criticism for Sarri: “When you have outstanding attacking talents like Ronaldo, Dybala, and Douglas Costa in your squad, you should enable them all to fully demonstrate their abilities.”
