Courtois: You Have to Shoot More to Beat Me; The Ballon d'Or Will Go to a Real Madrid Player

On Thursday, Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois released his documentary “Courtois: Back to Number One” in the presence of family, friends, and Real Madrid teammates. The film details Courtois’s challenging recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his left knee, which kept him out for almost the entire last season. During the event, Courtois took questions from the media.

The content of the documentary

“The film blends my childhood with the present, covering all stages. It shows what my rehabilitation process was like, having a goal in front of me and giving everything to return, and what that means. This documentary showcases my efforts and discipline. I’m very happy to be able to share this.”

Support received during rehabilitation

“My family, my wife. They are the ones I need the most at home. Professionally, I have to thank Davide (physiotherapist), Giuseppe (fitness coach), and Lopiz. The three of them made huge contributions. And Doctor Reyes, who got my knee back to its original state.”

The Ballon d’Or winner

“I hope one of my teammates wins the Ballon d’Or. They all have their merits, but the winner will be a Real Madrid player.”

Controversy over “BMV (Bellingham, Mbappe, Vinicius)” and Rodrigo’s “R”

Where is the C? (laughs) Everyone feels valued. These are external factors. Everyone in our team is proud to be part of it and feels valued.”

Do you feel invincible?

“That’s an exaggeration. I just want to help the team win games. I won’t always be invincible. To score against me, you have to shoot more, and confidence is important. I’m satisfied with my form. We’ll see how people remember me after I retire.”

Comparison with Casillas

“It makes me proud. I’m just doing my job and trying to do it as well as possible. If people think that way, it’s great. But I just want to help the team. When I was eight years old, I couldn’t even dream of playing for Real Madrid. It’s an honor, and I hope to continue helping the team.”
