The English Football League (EFL) Cup officials have released a statement confirming that the third round match between Wimbledon and Newcastle will take place on October 2nd at Newcastle’s home ground.
The statement reads as follows:
The EFL Cup third round match between AFC Wimbledon and Newcastle United will be held at St. James’ Park on Wednesday, October 2nd, at 2:45 AM.
The match was originally scheduled for Tuesday, September 24th, at Cherry Red Records Stadium but was postponed due to extensive flooding in the Wandle River area, including around the AFC Wimbledon stadium.
After an agreement between both clubs and subsequent approval from the Match Control Committee, the match will be reversed and held the following week at St. James’ Park.
Therefore, the English League Two match between AFC Wimbledon and Crewe Alexandra, originally set for Tuesday, October 1st, will now be rescheduled for a later date.
Further details regarding the rescheduling will be announced in due course.
