Gundogan: Already Obtained UEFA B License, Will Become a Coach in the Future, Aiming to Be as Successful as Arteta

Sky Germany published an exclusive interview with Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan. In the interview, Gundogan talked about his feelings returning to Manchester City from Barcelona, discussed Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta, and expressed that he will definitely become a coach in the future.

Gundogan spoke about his transfer back to Manchester City from Barcelona: “Guardiola said he originally didn’t want to bring in older players but made an exception for me? Honestly, the final process was quick and not complicated… Such transfers aren’t always as easy as they seem, but fortunately, everything went smoothly. I have a good relationship with Guardiola, and we are even neighbors.”

Talking about Guardiola, Gundogan indicated that he will certainly take up the coaching role in the future: “This is obvious. I started playing football at the age of three, and it has already and will always play an important role in my life. When my playing career ends, my wish is to continue being involved in football, and the most obvious path is to become a coach. I obtained my German Football Association’s UEFA B license 2-3 years ago. Now I still feel physically fit and hope to play at a high level for a few more years, but a coaching career is definitely a direction I am considering.”

Gundogan also mentioned that he has learned a lot from many famous coaches, which will be very helpful for his future coaching career: “I am now in my eighth year under Pep (Guardiola). I spent a year with Tuchel, and I am very grateful. I worked with Klopp for four years. It’s lucky to have worked with so many top-level coaches. That’s why I can imagine myself coaching in the future very well.”

Gundogan also talked about Arteta: “Mikel is a very smart person; he knows what he wants and what needs to be done to achieve his goals. I’m not surprised by his success at Arsenal… He will work at Arsenal for a few more years, and I believe he will continue to fight for titles in the coming years. If I could follow Mikel’s path in the future, it would be a very fortunate thing!”
