The Guardian reports that Manchester United chairman Sir Ratcliffe will soon convene a high-level meeting, and if the decision to make a change is made, Van Nistelrooy, Ten Hag’s assistant, will become the interim manager.
The report points out that this high-level summit is part of the regular schedule, with Ratcliffe in attendance, along with CEO Omar Belayar, sporting director Ashworth, and technical director Jason Wilcox all participating.
Although there were no signs on Monday that Ten Hag would be dismissed within Manchester United, The Guardian understands that if the decision to change the head coach is made, Van Nistelrooy will become the interim manager to allow time to appoint a permanent replacement. Manchester United has recently been in contact with former Bayern Munich and Chelsea manager Tuchel.
However, if Van Nistelrooy performs well, he could also become the official manager. When Mourinho was dismissed in 2018, it was Solskjaer who took over as interim manager and signed a three-year official contract in March of the following year.
