The 47-year-old Lukas Toni is one of Italy’s most famous and successful forwards. As a World Cup champion and former European Golden Boot winner, and currently a TV guest commentator, Toni gave an interview discussing the upcoming Champions League match between Leipzig and Juventus.
Toni praised Leipzig: “Leipzig is very good at discovering talented players, nurturing them, and then selling them. They are calm and knowledgeable, knowing exactly what to do, setting a good example in the football world. They consistently nurture key players and have established themselves as top teams in the Bundesliga. For example, this past summer transfer window, they sold Olmo, who performed excellently for many years at the club, and brought in young and ambitious players.”
Toni also praised the Bundesliga: “I had a wonderful three years at Bayern Munich. I think overall, the Bundesliga has made great strides. In the past, people always said that the Bundesliga lacked technical ability and pace, but you can see the progress and development of the Bundesliga through the results of European competitions. Dortmund reached the Champions League final last season, and Leipzig has also become a challenging team; their performance against Real Madrid last season was outstanding… You definitely wouldn’t want to face a Bundesliga team in the Champions League! The standard of the Bundesliga has improved, especially because the pace of the Bundesliga is faster than that of Serie A.”
Toni also praised Leipzig’s forward Benjamin Sesko: “Leipzig is currently performing well, not conceding many goals, and possessing the qualities needed for attack. Especially, I am a big fan of Sesko, he is a top player at a very young age. It will be very exciting to watch him compete with Vlahovic; in my opinion, they are the two most talented young forwards in Europe.”
Reporters asked Toni to further discuss these two forwards, and Toni said: “Vlahovic is more threatening inside the penalty area. Despite his large physique, Sesko cooperates very well with midfielders and other players; he is not just a forward but a versatile player who can influence the entire pitch. He just needs to be more consistent in front of goal. In summary, one of them (Vlahovic) needs better cooperation with teammates, and the other (Sesko) needs to become a more potent finisher. Together, they would make the perfect center forward. However, regardless, they are still young and have the potential to become the best forwards in Europe.”
