Kipchoge stated in an interview with Bild, “I will participate in the next Olympics in a capacity other than as an athlete. I will come to Los Angeles to encourage everyone to get involved in running. Running a sub-two-hour marathon in official competition is not a distant goal for the future.”

In 2019, Kipchoge became the first athlete in history to run a sub-two-hour marathon during the Breaking2 project in Vienna. However, this achievement was not recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). The current world record is held by the late Kiptum, with a time of 2 hours 0 minutes 35 seconds.
