On September 19, according to reports from the Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona hopes to formalize a new contract with Nike within 15 days.
The report states that Barcelona and Nike are continuing negotiations to sign a new official technical sponsorship contract for the professional team’s apparel. Improving the terms of this contract and expanding its scope is a goal of the board of directors under President Laporta. If the new contract is signed, Barcelona will meet the La Liga Fair Play standard of 1:1 and be allowed to use all the revenue for transfers.
It is understood that Barcelona is seeking an agreement for at least 10 seasons, with revenue exceeding $90 million per season, a “signing bonus” exceeding $100 million, and they hope to retain the BLM (Barcelona Licensing & Merchandising) property at all costs. Nike, however, hopes to recover at least a certain percentage of it.
