Following the opening match of the Euros, Scottish defender Tierney stated that he was not astonished by Havertz’s impressive performance.
In the 2024 UEFA Euro’s first fixture, Germany defeated Scotland 5-1, with Arsenal duo Havertz and Tierney on opposing sides. Havertz scored Germany’s third goal from the penalty spot. Tierney, who was on loan at Real Sociedad last season, believes Havertz has the capability to make a significant impact in the tournament.
Tierney said, “He’s a top player. I trained with him for a few weeks, so I’m not surprised by how well he performed. I’m confident he’ll shine throughout this competition.”
Scotland has two remaining group matches against Hungary and Switzerland. Despite their defeat to Germany, Tierney remains optimistic about the team’s chances of advancing. He commented, “We’re still very confident of qualifying because we know the opening game doesn’t define our progression. The next two games are crucial, and we’ll focus on them, believing we can get positive results.”
