Karagher: Palmer is Now the Best Player in the Premier League, Should Have Won Over Foden Last Season

Karagher believes that Chelsea star Palmer is now the best player in the Premier League, emphasizing that Palmer should have received this accolade last season.

In Saturday’s match against Brighton, Palmer once again demonstrated exceptional performance, becoming the first player in Premier League history to score four goals in the first half.

Palmer has been in scorching form at the start of the new season, and his performance last season was equally impressive, contributing 27 goals and 15 assists in 48 appearances.

Karagher stated: “Actually, I almost said he was the best player in the Premier League last season. Although I felt he truly was, due to Chelsea’s unsatisfactory performance throughout the season, I ultimately chose Phil Foden. However, deep down, I always believed he was the best player in the Premier League. If he can maintain this level of play, I believe he is undoubtedly the best. He didn’t even play alongside Manchester City’s top players.”

“When I see him now, I am reminded of the most recent player I considered the best in the Premier League but who didn’t play for a title-contending team, which was Bale during his years at Tottenham. Despite his team only striving for Champions League qualification, he was still the best player in the Premier League.”

Karagher also expressed sympathy for Foden, as Palmer’s rise has threatened Foden’s position in England’s attacking lineup.

Karagher stated: “Foden never seemed to fully secure his place in the England national team. Whenever a new player emerges, they take his spot. There was a time when it looked like he would be the right winger, but then Saka appeared. Then he tried the number 10 role, but Bellingham came along. Just when you think you’ve found a place for him, left-footed Palmer steps up. Personally, I have great admiration for Foden, but Palmer certainly deserves a chance with the England national team. In my view, no Premier League player has been more outstanding than him over the past 15 months.”
