On June 14, former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher said in an interview that, in his opinion, both current Manchester City and Liverpool teams would have no trouble defeating the 1999 treble-winning Manchester United squad.
Gallagher, a die-hard Manchester City supporter, praised his team’s dominance while also showing respect for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, stating, “This Liverpool team is incredibly strong as well; without Guardiola’s Manchester City, they would have won at least three Premier League titles.”
Regarding the 1999 Manchester United team, Gallagher was dismissive, saying, “Football back then was completely different. The other day, I saw footage of that treble-winning Manchester United on Sky Sports, and they were just passing the ball around slowly with no pressure from the opposition. The pace of the game was so slow. There’s no doubt that today’s Manchester City and Liverpool would comfortably beat that Manchester United side.”
