Wu initially joined the Turkish top flight as a free agent in January 2023, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Turkish powerhouse. After half a season, he moved on loan to TFF First League side Gençlerbirliği in the summer transfer window.

In the 2023-24 campaign, Wu established himself as a first-choice central defender for Gençlerbirliği, starting all six league matches at the beginning of the season. He was then called up to the national team for the Asian Cup early in the year, missing some games before returning to the TFF First League and regaining his starting spot. However, shortly after, Wu unfortunately suffered a knee injury in training following his national team duty, which required surgery and has kept him out of action since.

During this period, it’s been reported that several Chinese Super League clubs showed interest in acquiring Wu, but the player remained determined to continue his overseas career. Meanwhile, Başakşehir never gave up on the youngster.

It’s understood that the initial agreement was a “1.5+1” contract, and recent negotiations have activated the extension clause, prolonging Wu’s contract by another year on top of the original two-and-a-half-year deal, now running until the summer of 2026. Başakşehir will also retain a one-year option to extend the contract further.

Given his current injury status, Wu is unlikely to join the first team’s pre-season training this summer. As a result, another loan move to a top or second-tier European league for further development is highly probable. It’s rumored that a top-flight Eastern European club has expressed interest in the young defender.
