Souness: Manchester United's Problem Lies in Management, Even Ferguson or Guardiola Can't Save the Team

As Manchester United dismissed Ten Hag and prepared to hire Amorim, Liverpool legend Graeme Souness stated that the root of the Red Devils’ problems lies in management, not in coaching. He believes that even if Ferguson or Guardiola were to take over, they would struggle to turn the team around.

After Raja became a minority shareholder of Manchester United, he made significant changes to the management. Souness believes that Manchester United’s sporting director Ashley Woodward and technical director Darren Wilcox are responsible for the team’s current slump.

In Souness’s view, even Ferguson cannot save the team. “I believe that managing Manchester United at this moment is an extremely difficult task. Neither Guardiola nor Ferguson can lead the team to success. I think Manchester United is currently at its lowest point in the entire Premier League era, and it has the worst group of players in history,” he said.

Souness believes that Raja and Ineos have no understanding of football. “I have been following this team since they became minority shareholders of Manchester United. They really don’t understand football. Have their current football executives, Ashley Woodward and Darren Wilcox, done their best in player recruitment? If they think their signings are good, they are completely wrong. They have spent £200 million on these players.”

Additionally, Souness criticized Manchester United for being indecisive during the summer. “During the off-season, they interviewed new coaches, but did they consider whether it was fair to Ten Hag, who was still in charge at the time? The dressing room knew that the club was considering a change in manager. Did Ten Hag still have any authority? All the players knew he wouldn’t be staying long.”
