The latest player salary data released by the Major League Soccer Players Association (MLSPA) on Thursday shows that Messi and his Inter Miami team continue to lead, with the average salary in MLS increasing by 9.7%.
Messi’s contract will run until the end of 2025, and just his salary alone amounts to an annual guaranteed compensation of $20.4 million. Previously, Jorge Mas, co-owner of Inter Miami, stated that Messi’s total compensation (including a share of the league’s Apple TV deal) is between $50 million and $60 million.
Inter Miami set a new MLS regular-season points record with 74 points, thanks to a record-breaking expenditure of $41.7 million, which is more than double the spending of 23 of the league’s 29 teams.
Across the entire league, the average expenditure per team is $18.41 million, with a median of $16.68 million.
