Football Finance Expert: Leicester City Could Avoid Additional 3 Point Deduction with EPL Cooperation

On June 14, football finance expert Stefan Borson stated that if Leicester City actively cooperates with the Premier League regarding its Profit and Sustainability (PSR) breaches, it could potentially avoid an additional three-point deduction.

Borson referenced the example of Nottingham Forest’s point deduction last season, suggesting that a proactive approach to addressing PSR violations might lead to a reduction of 2-3 points.

Leicester City incurred losses of £90 million during the 2022-23 season, resulting in allegations of PSR breaches in March. Despite winning the Championship and securing promotion to the Premier League, the club faces the possibility of a points deduction at the start of the 2024-25 season, potentially starting on a negative points total.

Borson advised that for Leicester City, the most favorable course of action now is to cooperate closely with the Premier League and promptly resolve the PSR issues to save the team from the harsh penalty of a three-point deduction at the outset of the season.
