In the first round of Group A matches in the Euros, Germany defeated Scotland 5-1 with a man down, securing a winning start. After the match, Germany’s head coach Julian Nagelsmann spoke to the media.
Nagelsmann told ITV: “I’m very happy, I’m very satisfied. The first game in our own country is not easy. In the first 20 minutes we were outstanding, and I’m pleased with that performance.”
“We did concede a goal, but the result was good, and it’s a positive sign that the players were unhappy with that. I was a bit surprised that Scotland wasn’t as intense in the first 20 minutes. I think they were shocked by our ball possession, our focus was excellent. Then they defended deeper and didn’t press high up the pitch like they did in the previous qualifiers.”
