According to Beiqing Sports, recently, after returning to Beijing with the national team from Seoul, South Korea, head coach Ivanković appeared particularly exhausted. However, with the team successfully advancing to the 18-team finals, the experienced manager remains gratified and delighted. As a result, he accepted an invitation to gather with a group of both Chinese and foreign friends based in Beijing.
Regarding the utilization of young players, Ivanković commented, “Some might think it was risky to use young players, even starting some newcomers who had never played in official international matches, in such an important game. But I believe these players have already proven themselves as top performers in their respective clubs’ league competitions. They’ve shown great potential and ability, and they demonstrated strong fighting spirit and practical skills during national team training.”
Ivanković added, “I’ve said that national team players should fight like lions. I’m pleased that these young players lived up to expectations. They need such experiences if they want to participate in the World Cup. I’m also happy because through these experiences, they can grow quickly and approach the next phase of the World Cup qualifiers with more composure.”
When asked if the coaching staff would rely more on newcomers in the upcoming 18-team competition, Ivanković’s answer was affirmative. He stated, “Absolutely. I will continue to use the young players who performed well in this tournament and search for even more talented young players. I want to find those who truly embody the modern football philosophy.”
It is understood that Wu Shaocong, the only Chinese player currently playing in Europe at 24 years old, has caught Ivanković’s attention among the potential national team selections.
