Huang Bowen Joins Shandong Taishan Coaching Staff to Assist Cui Kangxi, Previously Worked Together at Jeonbuk Hyundai According to the revelation by blogger “Chinese Super League Observer,” former national team player Huang Bowen, who retired last year, is set to join Shandong Taishan and become a member of Cui Kangxi’s coaching staff, assisting the Korean coach in the second half of the Chinese Super League (CSL) season.

Huang Bowen once held the record for the youngest player to score in the CSL. He was selected for the national team in 2009 and helped Beijing Guoan win the championship that year. He then went abroad to join South Korea’s Jeonbuk Hyundai. In July 2012, Huang returned to China to sign with Guangzhou FC, where he spent ten years, winning the CSL title seven times and claiming two AFC Champions League titles.

In August 2022, Huang took on the role of assistant coach for Guangzhou FC, becoming both a player and a coach. In March 2023, Zheng Zhi resigned as the head coach of Guangzhou FC’s first team, and Huang also left his position. A month later, Huang announced his retirement from professional football.

One year after retiring, Huang returns to the sidelines, joining Shandong Taishan and reuniting with Cui Kangxi, who was the manager during his time at Jeonbuk Hyundai. This collaboration marks a renewed partnership between the two.

Shandong Taishan’s performance in the first half of this CSL season has been average, currently sitting in fourth place in the standings, with their chances of winning the league title significantly diminished.
