After the first round of group matches in the UEFA Euro, a data report was released by “European Football,” detailing the distribution of all 34 goals scored.
In the 12 matches of the opening round, 34 goals were netted, averaging 2.83 goals per game, slightly higher than the average from the previous edition (51 games, 142 goals, 2.78 goals per match). As in major tournaments before, “own goals” topped the charts with three, contributed by Germany’s Rudiger, Austria’s Weber, and Czech Republic’s Hložek.
Excluding the own goals, Real Madrid players found the back of the net three times (Carvajal for Spain, Bellingham for England, and Güler for Turkey), leading the way. Inter Milan players scored twice ( Barella and Bastoni for Italy), as did Borussia Dortmund players (Emre Can and Fükrü for Germany), with Slavia Prague (Schranz and Procházka) also scoring twice.
Additionally, 22 clubs had players score one goal each, including Musiala from Bayern Munich, Havertz from Arsenal, Eriksen from Manchester United, Morata from Atlético Madrid, Gakpo from Liverpool, and Fabian Ruiz from Paris Saint-Germain, among others.
“European Football” also revealed another statistic: As of the report’s publication, since the 1960 UEFA Euro, Real Madrid and Juventus are tied for the most goals in all European Championship finals (39 goals each), followed by Bayern Munich in third place with 35 goals. The rest of the teams in the ranking include: Liverpool with 27 goals, Barcelona with 26, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Arsenal, and AC Milan, all with 21 goals.
