Coutinho previously reached a mutual termination agreement with Aston Villa, ending his contract two years early, making him a free agent. Since then, reports have emerged that his new club could be his boyhood team, Vasco da Gama. Recently, Vasco da Gama’s president, Pedro Diniz, addressed the ongoing discussions about signing Coutinho.
Pedro Diniz said, “Regarding Coutinho, logically, he will attract interest from other clubs. But what’s very positive is that he really wants to play for Vasco da Gama. His first, second, and third choice is our team, which is fantastic.
We have already presented a contract to Coutinho, and we are currently evaluating and adjusting it with his entire sports management team. (By joining us), he might have to give up a lot in the future, but we are working hard to make it happen. Everything is under construction and progressing well. We are very eager for a successful conclusion.”
