On the early morning of June 19, in Group F of the European Championship, Portugal defeated the Czech Republic 2-1.
After the match, Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes praised the young talent, 21-year-old Francisco Conceição.
B Fernandes commented, “The Czechs are a team that can cause us problems, and we did well not to give them too many chances. We made a lot of mistakes in the first half, especially me – I’m one of the players who takes more risks. But risk-taking has two sides. We knew that Conceição is a player capable of changing the game. He’s very tenacious, and everyone is aware of his qualities.”
In 2003, Conceição’s father, old Conceição, was last called up to the Portuguese national team, where an 18-year-old rookie named Cristiano Ronaldo made his debut.
In 2024, as 21-year-old Conceição scored the winner, a 39-year-old Ronaldo embraced him in celebration.
