England started their European Championship campaign with a 1-0 victory over Serbia, although the performance was far from convincing. After the match, Serbian striker Mitrovic, who plies his trade in Saudi Arabia for Al-Nassr, lavished praise on Bellingham, calling him “the best player in the world.”
Since leaving Fulham last summer, Mitrovic has made a name for himself in Riyadh. Acknowledging England’s strength, he had special words for the 20-year-old Bellingham. Speaking to ITV after the game, Mitrovic said, “Bellingham is the player everyone is talking about, and today he showed why – he is one of the best players in the world, maybe even the best.”
Mitrovic believes that Serbia will not be deterred by the opening defeat and will fight until the end. He stated, “With players like Kane, Rice, Stones, Walker around Bellingham, and many more on the bench who can change games, as I said, congratulations to them (on the win), but we focus on ourselves. We have two important matches left, and we’ll work hard to recover and be ready for everything.”
England will face Denmark in their second group match, while Serbia will take on Slovenia.
